Since both of us work late and have a long commute, by the time we get home from work neither of us want to think about dinner. For me, the hardest part of the whole dinner process is deciding what to make. Once that decision is made, it's easy from there! But when I get home, I'm usually too exhausted to make a decision! Thus, dinner often turns into cereal, chips and salsa, or popcorn!
To overcome this, Adam had the great idea to plan our meals ahead of time! (Brilliant!) So we put together a list of all the meals we love or recipes we'd like to try. For example, pastas and chicken:
So every Sunday we plan out what we'll make each night of the week and shop for the ingredients we need so that we're prepared to cook.
By the way- we stole the whiteboard in the kitchen idea from our friends. Thanks Hangs!!

This is a VERY good idea! I always have had trouble coming up with ideas too and after Reagan was born it got worse! I made it my New Years resolution this year to actually make dinner and not get take out or a frozen meal. It helps a lot to plan ahead, plus it saves money when you don't have extra ingredients you don't need that go bad and get thrown away. Oh and your recipes sound really good!
Good for you guys! I don't have quite the same excuse (getting home late- as I am often "here") but some days are just so long and cooking, especially if I know Jon won't even be home until after 7pm (which means doing everything for dinner and with Sam by myself)its just hard.....a few months ago I started to do almost the same thing....(No wipe board though- thats a great idea!) but I plan the meals (Sun- Sat) out on a paper, and then on the back I come up with the list for the week...then when I am ever so lucky I go grocery shoping on Saturday when Sam is napping (if Jon is home....he can work on work....with out sam bugging him and I do't have to lug a toddler with me:)!!! Its like freedom:) ha ha...Who knew grocery shoping could be fun!? Ok, well, not fun, but peaceful!:) Its worked pretty good, and its budget friendly too, then you don't waste stuff:)....takes a little more planning, but its worth it.....
Nice work!!!!
you guys are cute. thanks for the shout out. your white board looks more fancy than ours and our has turned into a never ending grocery list. :) yours looks really cool. i like it! i still have your cook book (obviously) and started getting excited but then it died... maybe this will motivate me. its good you guys are doing it together because then you know you both make the choice. Sometimes i make something and he's not on board. so, good ideas. :) see YOU tonight!!! YAYAAYYAY!
