Sewing (or trying to!)

Although sea-foam green is a lovely color, it doesn’t quite go with our new kitchen. So I’m trying to complete the final part of the kitchen remodel and sew some cushion covers for the benches.

We found this pretty material on sale at Pottery Barn. To offset the red, I found a striped material with the same naturals and blues to put on the cushion sides and piping. I’ll probably do one side red, and the other side striped so that we can reverse them when the mood strikes. :)

So I borrowed my sister’s sewing machine, read the sewing machine manual, and dove right into it. Boy, do I have a lot of respect for those who can sew! It’s hard!

But like my Dad said, it’s actually a lot like engineering. You need to plan, measure stuff out, and lots and lots of trial and error! (I need to get one of those stitch removal tools because I do a lot of that and my huge scissors just aren’t working!)

Below, you can kind of see how they will look. I’ve got part of the smallest cushion done.

At this point, I’m still welcome to any suggestions you have from material layout to sewing tips or any reference websites you know of. We’re in San Antonio and Austin this weekend! I’ll be sure to post pictures of us soaking up the sun when we get back!

a homeowner

A few years ago, my mom gave me this cute little album (Thanks Mom!!) and last weekend I finally got around to filling it. I decided to use it to show the transformations of our condo over the last 2.5 years.

Here are some of the most dramatic changes that our home as undergone: (before on the top, now on the bottom)

The kitchen:

The bedroom:

The office:

There's lots more that we can do to improve our home (bathrooms are next!) but it's cool to look back and see how far we've come. I'm so proud of Adam for all he's able to do and learned to do with power tools!!

In love...

So on the way home from youth group on Sunday night, I had this strange urge for a s'more. So I told Adam about it, and admitted how crazy it was. And then he says "What if I told you that you could have one?" So when we got home...

He used the gas burners to toast the marshmallows! The flame was so hot that every 5 seconds he'd have to blow out the fire, but it was all good, no alarms went off ;)

And here was his masterpiece...

Thank you Sweetie! You are sooo good to me.
I LOVE YOU!
Happy Valentine's Day.

thinking of my sister

Yes, I'm at work and I'm blogging. VERY BAD, I know. But after checking the weather, I just HAD to post this. Today I'm thinking about my wonderful sister, Karen, in San Antonio who I miss very much. Karen- I'm very sorry about your SEVER WEATHER ALERT!

79 degrees?! We just got 10 inches of snow and you guys have a weather alert for abundant warm sunshine and some wind! Haha. Anyway, just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you. Maybe I'll grab a cup of your favorite coffee from Dunkin Donuts later today to warm up.

Can't wait to see you in a few weeks! Love you.
By the way, my root canal was postponed indefinitely (by me for insurance reasons!). Woohoo!

Home

I'm home today trying to beat off a cold before I get a root canal done tomorrow. :(
I was just looking out the window at all the snow and saw these...

Wish I was a better photographer so I could really capture how beautiful they are.

And a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our little friend SELAH! You are such a cutie!

Hope you have a fun-filled day today! :)
