Sewing (or trying to!)

Although sea-foam green is a lovely color, it doesn’t quite go with our new kitchen. So I’m trying to complete the final part of the kitchen remodel and sew some cushion covers for the benches.

We found this pretty material on sale at Pottery Barn. To offset the red, I found a striped material with the same naturals and blues to put on the cushion sides and piping. I’ll probably do one side red, and the other side striped so that we can reverse them when the mood strikes. :)

So I borrowed my sister’s sewing machine, read the sewing machine manual, and dove right into it. Boy, do I have a lot of respect for those who can sew! It’s hard!

But like my Dad said, it’s actually a lot like engineering. You need to plan, measure stuff out, and lots and lots of trial and error! (I need to get one of those stitch removal tools because I do a lot of that and my huge scissors just aren’t working!)

Below, you can kind of see how they will look. I’ve got part of the smallest cushion done.

At this point, I’m still welcome to any suggestions you have from material layout to sewing tips or any reference websites you know of. We’re in San Antonio and Austin this weekend! I’ll be sure to post pictures of us soaking up the sun when we get back!
